The CEJE is confirmed as a Centre of Excellence in August 2017

After having been awarded, in 2014, the label ‘Centre of Excellence Jean Monnet’, the quality of the research and teaching activities developed by the Centre d’études juridiques européennes (CEJE) was confirmed in August 2017.

The CEJE will consolidate the activities developed since 2014 which include, inter alia, courses taught by visiting professors (Geneva Jean Monnet Lectures), the organization of conferences and Doctoral Workshops and the online publication of scientific studies in the Geneva Jean Monnet Working Papers collection. In addition to the existing activities, the Centre will develop new research and teaching activities in the area of European and International governance, an issue of priority in International Geneva and the field of study and research of the Master of Advanced Studies in European and International Governance (MEIG Programme), launched in 2016. The aim of the new activities will be to provide better information and understanding of the main issues related to governance, by showing the complementarity between the regional and global levels of governance and by putting the emphasis on the importance of complying with the rules and standards of the existing International order.

The CEJE team comprises Professors, researchers and collaborators, and pursues close collaboration with legal practitioners. The Centre is under the direction of Professor Christine Kaddous and a Steering Committee the members of which are Professors of the University of Geneva and the Graduate institute of International and Development Studies (GIIDS): Mr Thomas Kadner Graziano, Ms Karin Lempen, Mr Nicolas Levrat, Mr Xavier Oberson, Mr Thierry Tanquerel et Ms Julia Xoudis (Professors at the University of Geneva) and Mr Vincent Chetail and Mr Charles Wyplosz (Professors at the GIIDS).

The new activities of the Centre of excellence will be developed in the spirit of creating a platform for professors, researchers, students and legal practitioners, allowing them to develop and nourish reflections and debates on various European and International legal issues, the relevance of which is not only academic but also practical.
